"Alexa, play SLEEP"

I’m bout to get reall with y’all, I’ve definitely been experiencing sleepless nights! I literally had to purchase melatonin to fall asleep on some occasions. In all honesty, this pandemic is a real nightmare from my past that has been magnified because of #CoVid19. Experiencing the loss of a loved one to a random, unfamiliar virus was a real experience for my family in 2014. Unfortunately the worry of reliving that horrific time and live in constant fear of being exposed to this unknown, fatal illness has triggered a dormant PTSD that I don’t even like to admit I suffer from. Alongside my trust in Jehovah God, I have been researching helpful positive information to help overcome these powerful emotions. It’s a classic tale of mind over matter. The isolation imposed by quarantine frequently leaves people feeling that they have no control over the situation. They also feel cut off from the rest of the world and unable to perform their usual duties.

The American Psychological Association reports that social isolation carries a number of health risks; POOR SLEEP, poor cardiovascular health, lower immunity, depressive symptoms, and impaired executive function. When executive function skills are impaired, we may find it more difficult to focus, manage our emotions, remember information, and follow directions. Psychological distress is common both during and after periods of quarantine. (I personally feel like the emotional exhaustion has been playing a heavy role in my mind) Our Personality differences might have an effect on how we cope. Extroverts may struggle more with the feelings of loneliness that isolation brings. Extroversion is characterized by a high need for social interaction. Extroverts may experience more loneliness or find staying home more difficult. This doesn’t necessarily mean that extroverts need to be constantly immersed in social situations, but online communities can be a great way to connect with others in some way and is still essential. *Continue this topic on
